Besides some crudely crafted experimental wheels that have not worked, the Department of Visual Arts, University of Cross River State has had only 2 professional throwing wheels, which were imported and supplied as part of the preparations for the 2015 Accreditation on visitation by the Nigeria Universities Commission (NUC). The two wheels have since broken down due to overuse, because they served about 450 students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Whereas throwing wheels are inalienable studio equipment, there have not been funds to procure imported high-end wheels for the department because of the dwindling economy. With shipping charges,
a good quality imported G39 Gladstone "Atlas" Wheel costs in excess of £4,000.00, or more than two million naira, at the present exchange rates. Using a budget less than the cost of importing one electric wheel, this study sought to fabricate 2 high-end electric throwing wheels for the Department of Visual Arts, University of Cross River State.
