    MOTIVATION
    I am driven by quality scholarship and research. As an ICT compliant researcher, my research efforts are in current trends in environmental pollution, dispersion and mitigation; sustainable and renewable energy generation; atmospheric parameterization; mathematical modeling, algorithm formulation, artificial neural networks, etc. I am a highly motivated person with a passion for pragmatic and quality service, reading and research.

    Dr. Ewona is an Atmospheric/Environmental Physicist of the Cross River University of Technology, Calabar. He has the following qualifications: Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Atmospheric Physics (UNICAL); PGD  in Comp. Info. Tech.(FUTO); M.Sc. in Comp. Sc. (UNIUYO), Awaiting Result; B.Sc. in Physics and Astronomy (UNN). He is a member of the Nigerian institute of Physics, NIP and Nigerian Environmental Society, NES.

    ICT/SOFTWARE KNOWLEDGE
    Dr. Ewona can use fairly well the following packages: SPSS, Artificial Neural Networks, Origin Pro, Word Processor, Excel, Corel Draw, Publisher, PageMaker, Power Point, Auto CAD and Paint Maker. He is versatile in internet service.
     
    RESEARCH EXPERIENCE AND SUPERVISION
    Dr. Ewona is a seasoned administrator and a prolific writer. He is the current Dean of the Faculty of Science of the Cross River University of Technology, Calabar -Nigeria.  He served as the Head of Department of Physics from 2013 until he left in 2016 on sabbatical leave to serve the University of Calabar where he drove the TETFund NRF research project. By 2017, he had co-authored three books and had over twenty five research articles in both national and international learned journals. 
    In 2008, he won the Cross River University of Technology Senate’s research grant which was completed successfully. He served as the External Examiner to the University of Uyo for three consecutive years with a record of excellent performance.
    Dr. Ewona has supervised and assessed several undergraduate and Post Graduate students’ projects in several Universities across Nigeria. He has also peered reviewed journal articles for several publishers in the areas of Atmospheric and Environmental Physics nationally and internationally.
    Dr. Ewona was a co-Awardee of the National Research Fund (NRF) grant from TETFund in 2014. It was the first of its kind to the University of Calabar. While at the University of Calabar during his sabbatical leave, he supervised several PhD and MSc students at the Atmospheric Unit of the Department of Physics. He is still serving the University of Calabar on Adjunct appointment. With specialized Air quality equipment such as AQM65, Aerocet531S and AEROQUAL ENV 500 series, Dr. Ewona was and is still being engaged in international best practices in research within the African Continent by employing state of the art research equipment. AQM65 used for the Characterization of Air Quality Parameters in the Niger Delta Area of Nigeria was the latest automated air quality facility in the world and was the first supply that the New Zealand based company made to Nigeria.  Dr. Ewona is involved in Fundamental and applied research in Africa.
     
    SCHOLARSHIP AND AWARDS
    Professor Igwe Ewona is an eminent and an accomplished scholar. He has several scholarship awards to his credit. He was promoted to the rank of Professor while he was a Senior Lecturer for distinctive scholarship and research at the Cross river University of Technology, Calabar, Nigeria.
    He was on government scholarship during his secondary School Certificate, BSc, MSc and PhD studies. Professor Ewona’s PhD thesis was adjudged one of the best in Nigeria. He is currently engaged in fundamental and applied research.
    In 2008, he won the Prestigious Cross River University of Technology Senate’s research grant which was completed successfully. 
    He is a co awardee of the TETFund National Research Fund (NRF) grant on the topic “CHARACTERIZATION OF AIR QUALITY PARAMETERS IN THE NIGER DELTA AREA OF NIGERIA” through the University of Calabar in 2014. He has several other research projects such as  “ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING AND MICRO - ENERGY RESEARCH FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT”. He is a Consultant on environmental and energy issues. He welcomes collaborative research. There are several of his journal publications which are widely cited.
     
    FIELD WORK
    Proessor Ewona is actively engaged in fundamental and applied research in Environmental Science and technology, as well as Renewable energy technologies.
    In this plate Professor Ewona is setting up the air quality monitoring equipment (AQM65) for operation at the Geo-Environmental Field station in the University of Calabar, Calabar- Nigeria. This facility was the first to be acquired in Nigeria from New Zealand under the sponsorship of Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund.
    In the plate below,  Professor Ewona is on field work with one of his Post Graduate students at the University of calabar. He is a consultant on environmental and energy issues. He welcomes collaborative research on a broad spectrum of academic interest and from any part of the world.
     
    Accreditation
    Two programmes in the Faculty of Science were granted full accreditation status by the National Universities Commission (NUC). The remaining progrmmes are awaiting a reaccreditation visit by the NUC. These are: B.Sc. Biology, B.Sc Microbiology, B.Sc. Biochemistry, B.Sc. Chemistry, B.Sc. Statistics and B.ScMathematics.

    Students Enrolment and Graduation
    There has been a considerable increase on student intake from an initial enrolment of 300 and 200 to about 2500 in 2013. The Faculty has also witnessed a significant progression from barely 100 on the graduation list in 2006 to about 1000 in 2013.

    Postgraduate Progrmmes in the Faculty
    Three Departments commenced Postgraduate programmes which will lead to the award of Postgraduate Diploma, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philiosophy degrees in Parasitology, Plant Breeding and Genetics, Microbiology, Physics, and Mathematics.

    Staff Development
    Some members of the academic staff completed their PhD programmesduring the period under consideration. They include Dr. Fur Mfongeh (Microbiology), Dr. Raymond Ajang (Parasitology), Dr. Lawrence Etim (Microbiology), Dr. Kingsley Enyi-idoh (Microbiology) Dr. Anthony Egbe (Botany) and Dr. IgweEwona (Physics). Dr. Emmanuel Ettah Physics. Others are at the verge of completing their Ph.Dprogrammes.

    Notable Achievements
    Students of the Department of Mathematics/Statistics who entered fortheMathematics Olympiad competition at Abuja came out second in their category. Management of the University has acknowledged this great achievement.

    Projects
    The Faculty benefitted from the present drive of the current Vice Chancellor to build new structures in the University. There is now a Faculty of Science complex undergoing construction and will soon be completed. This will accommodate more class rooms, Laboratories, Staff offices to augment the existing ones. This Faculty complex is situated opposite the Works Department.
