    PROFESSOR A. OWAN-ENOH

    Anthony Assam Owan – Enoh, from Agbokim Water Falls,  Etung LGA,  Cross River State, attended Government Secondary School, Ikom and School of Arts and Science, Uyo, before proceeding to the University of Jos; earning a Bachelors in Education (1982) and a Masters and Doctorate in Philosophy of Education (1985 and 1993, respectively). 

    Teaching Experience: Tutor, Community Secondary School, Akparabong and Government Secondary School, Obudu, Cross River State; Lecturer Federal College of Education (Technical) Gombe (1982-91, NYSC inclusive); University of Jos (1991 – 2005); Cross River University of Technology(2005-date).

    Administrative Experience: Admissions Officer of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Gombe (1987-1989); Chief Co-ordinator of the University of Jos B.Ed Sandwich Programme; appointed Professor in 2005 at Cross River University of Technology, Calabar and served as Dean of its Faculty of Education (2006-2008); appointed Provost of Cross River State College of Education, Akampka (2008-2014) ; appointed Vice Chancellor of Cross River University of Technology (2014-2019) and served a one-year sabbatical at the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) (2019-2020), acting as Head of its Quality Assurance Unit.  

    Research Focus and Publications: After his doctoral work on A Philosophical Appraisal of Nigeria’s Primary and Junior Secondary School Curricula in Relation to Dewey’s Pedagogy, he developed and focused his research interests in the twin areas of History of Educational Ideas and progressive education. The former inspired his publication of Main Currents in Nigerian Educational Thought (1996), a seminal work which examined the educational ideas of Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Dr Tai Solarin, Prof. Onyerisara Ukeje, Prof Aliu Fafunwa and Prof. Jibril Aminu. The other directed his research focus on progressive educational thought and practice. His other publications, apart from articles in learned journals, include: A Handbook of Educational Foundations (1987); Invitation to Philosophy of Education (1995) and Patterns of Philosophy (2001). In 2013, he presented his Inaugural Lecture, The Neglect of Philosophy of Education and the Spread of Nigeria’s Educational Wasteland.

    Current Research Interest: The problems of education in Africa.

    Professional Membership:  Nigerian Academy of Education; Philosophy of Education Association of Nigeria (which he served as Editor in Chief, Secretary and President for two terms each); Philosophy of Education Society of Great Britain; Philosophy of Education Society of Australia and International Network of Philosophers of Education.

    Service Commendations: Letters of commendation, Faculty of Education, University of Jos (2000) “for outstanding performance”, and 2002, “for input in compiling examination results”; best performing Provost of Colleges of Education in the South-South, by the South-South Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (2013); Letter of commendation by Dr. Peter Ogbang led Governing Council of Cross River University of Technology (2014) “for exemplary service to the University”; Letter of commendation by the Dr. Emil Inyang led Governing Council, Cross River University of Technology (2018). “for dynamic leadership style as well as resilience in ensuring progress and development of the University.

    Birth and Family:  Born on December 27, 1957, he is married to Bevlyn Egajor Owan – Enoh and has children.

    PROF. EKANEM IKPI BRAIDE

    Professor Braide holds a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology; a Masters and a Doctorate degree in Parasitology. She is currently a Consultant to the WHO and African Programme on Onchocerciasis Control (APOC). Professor Braide is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science.
    She is a recipient of many professional awards among which is the esteemed Jimmy/Roslyn Carter Award for outstanding dedication and achievement in the eradication of guinea worm in Nigeria.
    Professor Braide is the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the Cross River State University of Technology and of the Federal University, Lafia.
