The Vice Chancellor of UNICROSS, Professor Augustine Angba, has conducted a campus tour in the Faculty of Management Sciences, located in Ogoja campus of the university.
During the tour which took place on Friday 3rd September 2021, the Vice Chancellor visited sites of the ongoing Ultra Modern E-library Building Complex, Hostel accommodation and the already completed lecture theatre/event centre in the Faculty.
The Vice Chancellor used the visit as an opportunity to handover the site for the construction of Tourism Village in the Faculty.
He disclosed that contractors for the building of an accommodation of more than 500 rooms hostel capacity and 40 units of staff quarters will soon arrive at site.
Also, the Vice Chancellor inspected the proposed Entrepreneurship Development Centre of the Faculty where he announced that the Faculty will be taking delivery of several equipment worth millions of Naira for entrepreneurship practical in the department of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
In a bid to improve the university funding opportunities, the Vic Chancellor admonished teaching and non teaching staff to be committed in encouraging students o the Faculty to pay their school fees, in their daily engagement with the students both in class and during extra curricular activities.
He lamented that more than 10,000 students of the institution are yet to pay their fees and stated that this is constituting a huge burden on the university's internal generated revenue.
While responding to some questions regarding staff salaries, the Vice Chancellor remarked that efforts are on top gear to clear the backlog of salaries, while noting that the state Governor has paid subventions to the institution up to date.
Similarly, the Vice Chancellor sympathize with staff and students of the Faculty on the deplorable state of the roads in the Faculty he assured everyone that efforts are in top gear to ameliorate the suffering of staff and students in that direction.
He added that he is in contact with Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) on the road project.
Professor Angba further assured the Faculty's Management that soon more viable programs will be mounted in the
Faculty and more developmental projects will be sited in the Faculty that will showcase to the world that the campus is a world class citadel of knowledge.
The VC urged staff and students to remain peaceful, law abiding and focus on the university progress.
In his response, the Dean/HOC Dr. Sunny Ewa, thanked the Vice Chancellor for his amazing strides in the Faculty within his short sojourn as Vice Chancellor.
He added that the Faculty had never had it so good.
The VC also visited the Faculty's ICT centre where a group of postgraduate students in the department of Business Administration were having their external defense.
While interacting with the Head of Department, Dr. Jude U Bassey and the external examiner, Prof. Emmanuel Isaiah Akpan, he assured them of the university's commitment to academic excellence and congratulated all graduating postgraduate students.
Before leaving the campus, the Vice Chancellor promised that in the nearest future, a befitting administrative block will be built for the Faculty of Management Sciences. He urged all staff of the Faculty to be developmental conscious and proactive in the discharge of their duties.
