The Vice Chancellor of UNICROSS, Prof. Augustine Angba has commended members of the Team DC Solar Element Stove who recently emerged winners of the Science and Technology Innovation Challenge (STIC) held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.
Speaking on Tuesday during the official presentation of the Easy cooking solar stove by the team to management of UNICROSS, the Vice Chancellor noted that the award is a manifestation of hard work. He said "I want to assure you that this award will be ploughed back for bigger awards. The narratives are changing and gradually they will change and we are going to have a new story."
He appreciated the Governor for finding him worthy to lead the institution, saying: "This is the outcome of the Governor's belief in this management.
This is clear manifestation of the fact that you can get it done. It is a victory for all of us. We are very proud of you and the credit is for the entire Cross River State. We have secured appointment to present this award to the Honourable Commissioner for Quality Education. And thereafter, we hope to present the award to the Governor." He advised other students to emulate the team, saying: "We call on other students to toe this line and contribute their quota to the growth of our school."
Speaking during the presentation, the team leader and Faculty guide, Prof. Babson Ajibade gave credence to management for providing a conducive environment for the team to thrive. Professor Babson is also the Director of Academic Planning in UNICROSS. He said: "For me the key is an enabling environment and commitment. We have a management that is transparent by creating the enabling environment for us to thrive. On the other side is the commitment of the team in putting in their best. We are very happy to come to Management with our humble effort. We are envisaging when UNICROSS will become a hub for industrialization."
The team is made up of five student members. They are Victoria Effiong and Solomon Muze of Visual Arts Department, Paul Okim and Ofem Bassey Ikpi of Electrical/Electronic Engineering Department as well as Esu Onwineng of the same department.
Highpoint of the event was the presentation of the product that won the award nicknamed 'Easy Cooking Stove' to the Vice Chancellor and other management staff.
Recall that on the 29th June, 2021, the UNICROSS contingent were involved in the national competition and emerged victorious clinching the overall Best Price of the competition.
