The Vice Chancellor of Cross River University of Technology, Professor Augustine Angba, has described time as a resource that must not be compromised by staff of the university.
He made this description yesterday, while addressing staff of Ogoja campus of the university during his maiden official interactive session with them.
Speaking on the need to have all hands on deck in order to recover what was lost during the period of ASUU strike and COVID 19 lockdown, the Vice Chancellor stated that effective time management will enhance efficient operation of the university.
He stressed the need for attitudinal overhauling and urged all staff to henceforth take their jobs seriously, as God is always looking for diligent staff to honour.
On the appointment of departmental or faculty representatives in various roles, he advised leaders to appoint colleagues based on merit and not sentiment or bias. He noted that with the speed of activities in the university, workers must be smart and articulate to meet up with deadlines of the university management which cannot be left to chance in the hands of indolent and weak staff.
He further stressed that a time is coming when appointments to offices will arise from the recommendations of majority of students, as it is currently the scenario in the department of mass communication.
He enjoined staff who are passionate about the transformation and development of the university to feel free to come out and partner with the university.
Also, he appealed to staff of the university to be patient with the university's management regarding the backlog of unpaid salaries. He disclosed that his management team is working assiduosly to redress this anomaly.
Consequently, the Vice Chancellor stated that efforts are in top gear to float ventures in the university that will promote more income stream for staff and guarantee a more robust revenue generation that will supplement the usual monthly subvention from the state government.
He urged staff of the faculty to ventilate fresh ideas that will drive the vision of the university especially in the area of setting up leading ventures like Business School and other consultancy services.
Furthermore, the Vice Chancellor announced that the university has secured funding for the actualization of full accreditation of the department of Hospitality and Tourism Management scheduled for this year.
In the same vein, he alerted staff that the faculty will soon be taking delivery of an ultra-modern e-library and a smart hostel for students among other industries that will be commencing soon in the faculty. Also, he noted that the university is making frantic efforts to ameliorate the effect of staff shortage in some departments of the faculty.
